Gifts from Qualified Retirement Plans

If you are 70 years and 6 months or older (or 72 if you turn 70 ½ after December 31, 2019), you can make gifts to Widener University directly from your Traditional IRA or Roth IRA accounts and count them towards your required minimum distribution – up to $100,000 annually for one person, or $200,000 per couple. These gifts can be used to fund any program or initiative at Widener, including endowed scholarships, professorships, or facilities enhancements. Because these gifts are made directly from your IRA, you do not pay income taxes on the distribution.

These gifts count the same as cash and can be used the day funds are received by Widener.

To make your IRA transfer, please contact your plan administrator. Direct all gifts to:
Office of Development and Alumni Engagement
  Widener University
  1 University Place
  Chester, PA 19013

Widener’s Federal Tax ID number is 23-1386178.  Ask your IRA plan administrator to include documentation of your name and your preferred designation for the gift.

If you have questions, please contact Widener's Office of Development and Alumni Engagement staff or call 610-499-4486 or 1-888-WIDENER.  If you're ready to make your gift, contact your plan administrator or download our sample request letter.

Widener recommends that before making any significant gift you speak with your preferred tax professional and your financial advisor.  Certain gifts, such as those which support lead trusts or annuities, cannot be funded through a charitable rollover gift.
