The Dr. Susan Mills, PhD, RN Memorial Scholarship

Dr. Susan MillsOn November 4, 2018, Professor Susan Mills of the Widener University School of Nursing passed away after a brief illness.

Dr. Mills was a two-time Widener graduate who earned her bachelor of science in nursing at Widener, and returned to earn a PhD in nursing science. She had more than two decades of experience in pediatric nursing, including time at AI DuPont Hospital for Children, and she loved teaching pediatric nursing to Widener students. She liked Widener’s small size because it allowed her to get to know so many of her students personally.

Dr. Susan Mills was a beloved teacher, mentor, and colleague in the Widener University School of Nursing since 2005. Her knowledge and expertise in Pediatric Nursing influenced many to pursue a career working with children and adolescents. Dr. Mills’ work with conceptual understanding contributed greatly to the success of many of our graduates on NCLEX and in practice. She was always there for students if they needed someone to listen to them or to help them learn how to be successful. We all miss her ever present smile and infectious laugh in our hallways and classrooms.

To honor the memory of Dr. Mills, Widener University has established the Dr. Susan Mills, PhD, RN Memorial Scholarship.  This scholarship will benefit students in the School of Nursing who, like Dr. Mills, have a passion for patient care and the advancement of the science of Nursing.

Dr. Mills’ legacy will live on through this scholarship. I encourage you to donate whatever you can, if Dr. Mills had an effect on your success in Nursing.

Many thanks,
Anne Krouse
Dean, Widener University School of Nursing
