When the Pride unites, anything is possible! On April 8, the university's fifth day of giving, the university community didn't just answer—they completely redefined what a single day of giving can accomplish.

Alumni, current students, families, faculty, staff, and friends all came together to invest in the future of the university and the students who call it home, producing record-setting results in every measurable category.

The final tally speaks for itself: 1,447 donors making 2,226 individual gifts, resulting in a staggering $236,567 investment in Widener students.

Throughout the day, challenges made possible by generous donors and university Trustees helped to energize participation by gamifying the day and providing additional funds for victorious programs, sports, scholarships and academic units in each challenge as donors showed their support. Students gathered in the UC to make gifts, learn about philanthropy, and show off their roars, which could be heard in every area of the university, across all three campuses.

While the numbers are historic, the real magic of the day lives in the tangible, campus-wide impact of the dollars raised: Students who are able to focus on their studies instead of their finances, programs that grow stronger each year, and a campus experience that prepares graduates for lives of purpose and impact.

Roar4Widener makes an immediate impact on resources that are available for students across the university's campuses, through:

  • Scholarships to help reduce financial barriers and allow students to focus on academics.
  • The Pride Pantry making non perishables and hygiene essentials available students facing food insecurity or financial difficulty.
  • The Student Emergency Fund for students facing unexpected financial hardships, helping them to stay enrolled and on track to complete their Widener education.
  • Athletic programs that support students on the field and in the classroom.
  • Academic excellence that help students expand, grow, and succeed.
  • Cooperative learning, internships and legal clinics that provide real-world experience for students before graduation.

More than 90 areas of the university were featured during Roar4Widener donors this year.

Students expressed their appreciation in a video sent to donors.
